Organizations Help With Christmas Like No Other
The efforts of the Marine Corps 1254 League, which is once again collaborating with Christmas for Kids, Maples Ford, and City Police in Warsaw and Lincoln to provide new toys to children, are sure to be among the highlights of the charitable activities that will take place during the Christmas season.
COVID- This year, because of 19 hazards, some traditional Christmas celebrations had to be cancelled, but the children of Benton County have not been forgotten.
Other local organizations are offering holiday meals and clothing for families in need, as well as for veterans and active military troops who are currently deployed. Since perhaps four or five years ago, David Wood fine, a member of the 1254 Marine League in Warsaw, has volunteered his time with the Toys for Tots organization.
Maples Ford Dealership
According to Wood fine, the Maples Ford Dealership also serves as a drop-off location for new gifts that the local community has donated.
The dealership’s employees have made significant contributions by collecting and delivering toys. When people ask for assistance in purchasing Christmas presents for the children in their families, according to Wood fine, they are not questioned in any way.
According to Wood fine, “We also work with “Shop with A Cop program,” which will take place this year on December 11, commencing at 6 p.m. at Walmart. “Shop with A Cop program” When the Marines hand out brand new toys to each child, a member of the City Council will be there dressed as the Grinch. The 19 children from Warsaw and the 20 children from Lincoln will receive a $100 gift card from a police officer, who will accompany them as they buy.
According to Warsaw Police Chief Sean McCann on, the department will experiment with something new this year. Each child can purchase one toy for themselves to keep at this time, as well as additional gifts that will be tagged and wrapped by the community’s law enforcement, their families, and any other interested volunteers.
After that, the parents will receive the wrapped presents to place under their Christmas trees in preparation for Christmas Day’s unwrapping. Calling City Hall at (660) 438-5522 is the next step for anyone interested in volunteering to help wrap these gifts at the Warsaw Police Station.
According to the chief, this program’s main goal is to show children that police officers are not just in uniform but also care about them. The store’s managers are also again providing new toys that have been donated. According to the manager, more than 50 presents will be available for purchase organized in the special stock room. They will also accept donations of clothing and other items that can help local families with a clean Christmas.
Twelve Days of Christmas story-reading program
According to Chief McCann on, the Twelve Days of Christmas story-reading program is yet another risk-free city activity that is currently in the planning stages. Twelve different city characters will take turns reading Christmas stories to their families. James White, publisher of the Benton County Enterprise, will record each reading so that the entire collection can be posted on the City of Warsaw’s website and Facebook page until Christmas.
In this way, households are able to sit back, relax, and feel secure while still being able to watch and listen to the stories being read aloud. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas will be one of the featured stories, and Mayor Eddie Simons will be the one to read it. Jessica Kendall, who works as the city clerk in Warsaw, disclosed that Republican women in Benton County are hand-painting pebbles and hiding them in various locations throughout the city.
A message or coupon that may be redeemed for a prize or a discount at a local business will be inside for anyone who discovers one of these. Kendall said the pebbles would be transformed into Christmas presents and delivered to each household in Benton County.
The gift is currently being delivered by volunteers who are seeking more to be done from their respective businesses, food companies, and restaurants. Bentonville volunteered to spend $400 on truckloads of new toys donated by residents. This year’s program will again be held in the parking lot at Walmart on December 11.
According to the mayor, this program’s main goal is to show children that there are people in businesses who care about them. According to the mayor, the truck will be filled with toys and delivered to the Warsaw Police Station around 4 pm.
According to the chief, each child will receive a $100 gift card from an officer, who will accompany them as they buy. They will have another $100 gift card set aside for Walmart’s managers, other local business owners, and employees.
Sons of the American Legion
In addition, the Sons of the American Legion in Warsaw donate food, clothing, boots, and toys to nine families in the southern portion of Benton County.
There are a total of 38 children in these homes. For the past 17 years, the organization has been running this program in collaboration with the Benton County Health Department to assist the “most needy” families during the holiday season. Speaking on behalf of the Sons of the American Legion program, Tom Fink stated, “We will conduct a toy drive for contributions of new toys this Friday, December 4, from 2 to 7 p.m.” The toy run will take place. However, donations of toys will be welcomed at the American Legion Hall in Warsaw from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every week.
Mary Brown is in charge of coordinating the spending to ensure that the families are provided for. According to Fink, the Sons of the American Legion are responsible for raising money throughout the year for this program. However, the most successful fund-raising event is typically a musical that is held at the Legion Hall and features performances from as many as five local bands. Toys are typically purchased following the performance of the show.
This year, COVID-19 prohibited the musical from taking place, and funding is around fifty percent lower than last year. As a result, the cause for the toy rush is as follows. The words of Mr. Fink can be paraphrased as follows: “I want to thank everyone in the community for the years of support they have given us for this initiative.”
The Warsaw Elks are extremely active in a wide variety of fund-raising activities, which benefit nursing homes, veterans, and groups serving overseas in the military. In exchange for a contribution of $5 during December, the charity will be selling decorations commemorating veterans’ service in the armed forces.
Veterans will receive flannel shirts thanks to the monies that were raised. Memory Tree ornaments will be sold for $10 each to raise money for purchasing food, clothing, and gifts for ten families with a combined total of 35 children and 19 veterans who are now residing in area nursing facilities. To contribute to the cost of providing hygiene/gift bags to 170 residents at Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation and the Lincoln Community Care Centre, the ornaments will be sold for a little bit longer than usual.
Every Friday from 1:00–2:30 pm, the Warsaw Senior Centre offers free soup and coffee to those in need. One hundred percent of the proceeds go toward funding their regular programs, including Meals on Wheels, home-delivered meals, meals at various Meals On Wheels programs, daily home visits by nursing home residents, and special trips out of town.
The soup is also offered at the Warsaw Public Library on Tuesdays and Veterans Day. There will be special offerings on December 11th and 12th, so check with the Warsaw Community Centre for more information.
